Heterotopic pregnancy diagnosed during laparoscopic surgery: A case report

Heterotopic pregnancy, defined as simultaneous intra- and extrauterine gestation is diagnostically challenging. The incidence rate of heterotopic pregnancy 27-fold higher after assisted reproductive technology than spontaneous conception; nevertheless, it relatively rare (reported 0.003%). We report a case laparoscopically diagnosed pregnancy. A 37-year-old primipara, who conceived intrauterine insemination in conjunction with ovulation induction, was referred to our hospital for evaluation abdominal pain at 6 weeks' gestation. Transvaginal ultrasonography revealed viable left adnexal mass (3 cm) suggestive hematoma or ectopic Laboratory test results showed total serum β-human chorionic gonadotrophin 33,783 mIU/mL hemoglobin (Hb) 10.7 g/dL.
